You only need around a 7-9GB partition for the DMG to restore and extract the contents. Run Disk Utility and expand BaseSystem.dmg on the flash drive formatted GUID (the 'Options') and Mac OS coffee (HFS +) 6. Copy the folder OS X Install ESD / Packages folder on the flash drive in the / System / Installation / replacing the file alias Packages. Q 1) Can I, by any chance, convert.dmg file to.exe file? The DMG is not one file. It is a disk image. In Windows, you can use ISOBuster to expand the DMG into an ISO image (uncompressed disk image). That will allow you to see all the files that are inside the DMG image, This is a lot simpler than the whole rigamarole by '?' The whole DMG to USB process is possible with a tool like TransMac. Just right-click the USB drive in that program and then choose Restore with Disk Image, and then you can boot to the USB drive to run the DMG program. Point to your.dmg (or choose All Files to select an.iso) file and click Open. It will take a few minutes depending on size of.dmg and speed of USB drive, but once done you can pop it into your mac, hold down the option key when turning on the mac and choose the USB drive. Select the DMG file and at the top click the 'Resize Image' button (or via the Menu Images Resize) A Disk Image will always take up as much space as you sized it. If you make it 2GB it will take up 2 GB of space on your hard drive or flash drive. A sparse images will grow according to it's contents with the selected size being the limit.
